As the magma cools slowly, crystals of lepidolite develop within pegmatite veins, often alongside other lithium minerals like spodumene and petalite. Chemically, lepidolite is a potassium, lithium, aluminum, and silicate mineral, with the formula K(Li,Al)3(Si3Al)O10(F,OH)2, giving it a layered, flaky structure characteristic of micas.
